You can delete your data from Octopoda at any time from the Account page under Settings. There are two options: delete all scan data and keep your account, or delete the account and everything in it. Both are permanent.

Delete all scan data

Only the account’s owner can do this, and no scan can be running: wait for running scans to finish, or cancel them, first. Select Delete scan data next to Delete all scan data and confirm. This deletes every finding, all scan activity and summaries, and any uploaded code that has not expired yet. The list of scans stays, emptied of its contents, as a record of the credits each one used. Your plan, credits and team stay as they are, so you can keep scanning.

Delete your account

Select Delete account and type your GitHub username to confirm. This:
  • cancels your plan on Stripe immediately, so you are not charged again,
  • deletes your Octopoda account and all of its data,
  • signs out every CLI session.
If you own a team account that has other members, remove them first, so nobody loses access by surprise. If Octopoda cannot reach Stripe to cancel your plan, nothing is deleted and you are asked to try again, so you are never left paying for an account that no longer exists.

What stays elsewhere

  • On GitHub: checks and comments Octopoda posted on pull requests stay on GitHub. Delete them there, and uninstall the Octopoda GitHub App from your GitHub settings.
  • On Stripe: invoices and payment records are kept as tax law requires.
  • One trial per person: Octopoda keeps the GitHub user ID and card fingerprint of an account that had a free trial, with nothing else, so the trial cannot be claimed again.
  • Backups: copies in our database backups expire within 30 days.
See How Octopoda handles your code for retention details.
